EL GRITO DE LARES FESTIVAL 2018

Centro Cultural y Educativo El Maestro

Was founded in the South Bronx with a vision that went beyond the ring.

For two decades, the center has served as a place where young people have built discipline, confidence, and community through boxing.

What began as a vision to unite Puerto Rican culture, mentorship, and sports has become a home for families across the Bronx.

Under the leadership of Fernando ‘Ponce’ Laspina and his late brother Pedro Luis ‘Pete’ Laspina.

El Maestro built more than fighters.

It built relationships, opportunity and pride.

Today, El Maestro continues that mission through athletics, mentorship, culture, and education.

Empowering the next generation both inside and outside the ring.

Our Origins Story

The founder of El Maestro, Professor Fernando Ponce Laspina, Born in Ponce Puerto Rico, grew up in the Bronx during a time of challenge and change.

As a young leader in his community, he experienced firsthand the realities many youth still face today.

Determined to create a different path, he dedicated his life to building a space rooted in :

Valor & Sacrifice. Patience & Wisdom.

With that vision, Centro Cultural y Educativo El Maestro Inc. inspired by the teachings of Dr. Pedro Albizu Campos, “El Maestro,” the organization was founded.

It has become a place where young people can find structure, mentorship, discipline, and opportunity through culture, education, and boxing.

“The youth have the duty to arm themselves with the weapons of wisdom.” - Dr. Pedro Albizu Campos.
